Spirit Marks

The Spirit and Informal marks are used to communicate school spirit. These marks are friendly and casual, and they should be used only when a bolder, more informal look is desired, particularly by student groups and alumni organizations. These marks should never compete graphically or be used as a substitute for the University's academic or tagline signatures. The Intercollegiate Athletics program and the Office of Alumni Relations are the only units authorized to use the traditional, freestanding Cougar head as part of the signature.

The freestanding Cougar head is the most commonly applied spirit mark. It should be used sparingly, as a piece of art in informal or casual communications. The freestanding Cougar head should not be used as a substitute for or compete with the academic or tagline signatures.

  • The mark must not be altered.
  • The mark must be reproduced in either Crimson (PMS 201), Gray (PMS 431*), or black.
  • The ® registration symbol must appear with all commercial, promotional, and fund-raising uses of the mark.
