Toolbar
A horizontal toolbar for site tools or utilities is optional and appears immediately below the site identity zone. Site tools or utilities are functions or links to important elements of the site that help visitors use the site.
Links that are part of the site content hierarchy are not tools. Never put featured links or site navigational links in the toolbar. Place these links in the navigation zone.
The toolbar is reserved for site tools or utilities or a personal identifier or greeting on personal sites. Never put site navigation links in the toolbar. Place these links in the primary navigation zone.
Site tools or utilities are functions or links to important elements of the site that help visitors use the site. Examples include:
| Checkout | Login/logout or Sign In/Sign Out | |
| Contact Us | Personalized Settings | |
| Downloads | Print Page | |
| Directory | Search | |
| E-mail Page | Map | |
| Help | Shopping Cart | |
| Index | Your Account |
Pages with personal logins may display a personal identifier or greeting at the far left in the toolbar after the visitor has logged in. The personal identifier may be bolded. Use the provided CSS class (toolbargreeting) to properly format the identifier.
The link style, text position, font, and size are fixed and must not be altered.
Text must be upper and lower case. (This is often called headline-style capitalization; for details on correct capitalization, consult the Chicago Manual of Style.) Never use all capitals or all lower-case.
Align tool links flush right, with the far right link aligning vertically with the right edge of the last WSU global link or near the left edge of any graphic extending across the toolbar.
The link text color must be one of the four grays in the WSU Web palette and all tools must use the same color.
Links must change color on mouse rollover and are not underlined.
The optional personal identifier appearing on personal pages may be a WSU Web palette color differing from the tool text color and may be bolded.
The toolbar height is set and must not be altered.
The preferred background color is one of the two lightest tints of gray from the WSU Web color tint set (45% or HEX #b6bcbf and 15% or #e7e9ea) in either a flat gray or gradated from gray to white. However, the color may be changed to any WSU Web palette color or Web tint.
A background image or gradient may be added to the background. The image must not interfere with text legibility or be a repeating pattern.
Do not add a border or line to any edge of the toolbar.
Imagery may extend across the toolbar zone from either the site identifier zone or the primary content zone. However, imagery must not dilute the visual integrity of the toolbar zone to where it is not clearly defined as a distinct zone.
